I was moving rocks around in my tank and accientally brushed my forearm against a feather duster. I then felt a sting and my skin turned a little red. This morning the redness is gone, but I could still feel the sting, very slighly. Should I be alright? Thanks!
I'm pretty sure I hit the feather duster just because of where it's positioned in my tank. I could be crazy though. People have reported getting stung by coral, right?
I've never heard of a feather duster causing a painful reaction. Maybe there were hydroids or something else on the tube. The crown is the only part of a feather duster that's normally exposed and it has no stinging cells or other defense mechanisms.
So I should be alright, unless I start having breathing problems, right? This happened this morning around 1am. Someone told me, if it's anything serious I'd know right away. ?? Thanks!
Uh, I think you should be fine, wong. Usually things that sting you just have little nematocytes (like the hydroid idea sounds likely, it's not your duster) that cause a little bit of temporary pain, not neurotoxins or worse, like palytoxin, which wouldn't feel like a distinct "sting". Unless you have a lionfish or blue ringed octopus in there we're not aware of.
Just as a precaution against palytoxin, M. marinum, etc.... I really think people should be wearing gloves anyway when they are arms deep in the tank.
Well there was that guy I heard about that got stung by an Mylasian oko Feather Duster, he was fine for the first 48 hours then woop! Just keeled over from a toxic blood Infection... Nahh just messing with your mind.
