This month... I lost

True Armaggedons ( started w/ 1 then gained to almost a dozen then just melted away ) 2nd attempt, wont make a 3rd and last until new tank is put upstairs.

DarthMauls 5-6 polyps ( got burried by snails in the sand, stressed and didn't make it )

Candy Apple Reds 12-15 polyps (lost battle to bubble algae on frag rubble ) Got lazy to take out small patch of BA's till it got to late.. frag was in the back of the tank and didn't get to pay much attention to it.

2 different frags of Lunar eclipse ( polyp size a dime/nickle ) death was same as darthmauls

PPE's ( a few ) frag rubble fell on a couple polyps, stressed and didnt make it.

and a couple of nice no name zoa's that got out competed by other polyps ( suffacted and didn't get light )

Oh yeah, lost a bunch of SPS, it got hot 1 day here is the bayarea, went to the GoldenGate park for a party got back and tank was at almost 85ish... a bunch of sps RTN'D.. Lokani's, Turaki's etc... Not to mention the countless LE frags that I lose to huge turbo's bulldozing them off the frag racks and falling behind the main rocks and me not being able to find them in time.

AH- another day in reefkeeping, I promised my self no new CORAL/Fish till the new tank is completely moved upstairs and the 100gal and it' inhabitants not going to new 37cube and 20gal prop are sold ).

So tell me what losses you guys have encounterned this month? Whats the death toll?

This month I lost all but 3 of my chong bongs, my third(and last) atempt at darth mauls, and absolutely butchered a duncan trying to get some heads off of it. lol. Other than that is has been pretty good.

I did have a less than fortunate few days last year in concern to two different displays that I will never forget and hopefully never repeat......

dang thats a big month! so far nothing this month I havent fragged anything but a fe frags and all healed up nicely

I had my candy apple greens melt last month still don't know why had them in tank for 3 yrs.

bam bams and lunars die because of thermometer broke and then refractometer was out of wack. Lost over 10 different types/species of clove colonies

flyyyguy...That makes me sick just looking at it...I can only imagine how you felt to see it in person...I would have sat down and cried like a baby.

ya...it hurt pretty bad. What doesnt kill you makes you stronger. :)

When I first pulled into the driveway I could see the glowing white skeletons in the smaller tank through my living room window and my heart sunk. I knew it was bad before i even got out of the car.

I saw this thread last week and debated whether to add to it. The pain is still real for me.
Mostly because it was self inflicted.
My crash started in another tank.
I had a softball sized colony of some nice rpe's in my 240. Somehow it fell over upside down on some hairy mushrooms. The mushrooms stung the rpe's badly. I placed the colony in a moderate flow area to blow away the injured tissues, but my purple tang decided to help himself and started ripping at the colony.
I thought I needed to get what was left of the colony out of there so I placed it into my 40 gallon zoanthid tank. That was a big mistake.
The colony developed some sort of fungus/bacterial thing that rapidly spread to most of the rest of the tank.
The day after moving the rpe's, I ended up out of town for two days, so I had no idea what was happening in the tank.
By the time I got home, most of the nice stuff was closed up, melting and dieing.
I lost colonies of:
25-28 ppe's
40 premium rpe's
20 lunar eclipes
10-12 cat eyes
10-12 mowhawks
6-7 solid green grandis ( a friend gave me these. I waited 9 years before he would frag me off a piece of them and only had them a month)
25-30 safecrackers
4 other small colonies of different pe types.
30 or so eagle eyes and about the same for bam bams.

I do have a q-tank, but it wasn't setup at the time and I just didn't think I had the time.

wow, sorry to hear. These are the stories people need to hear as a testament that even through adversity people still go strong and keep on reefing. Like in my area, recently there has been a lot of cool reefers leaving the hobby.. sucks.

It seems most horror stories happen when people are on vacation. I have learned long ago to have a trusting friend stop by daily to check on things and feed the tank. I dont trust electronics to control tings that can wipe out a tank.
