evil mel zoas

I had about 20 polyps of what I have been told were Evil Mel zoas spread out on about 3 or four different rocks when I set my tank up a year ago, I didnt know any better they have spread to about six rocks and probably 2 sq. foot of coverage, taking up space that I can use for sps. I have tried to get rid of them with kalk and lemon juice and hot water and boiling and they have come back every time, so tonight every rock that had one on it is in a big thing of bleach so no more evil mel zoas!!

Sorry guys I would have done that, I tried a little around here local, Its hard to tell but some of them were on rocks that weigh fifty pounds and I have to have those big rocks for an eight foot tank.
 
Heh. No problem. Those corals grow like a weed under good light conditions. Under low-light, they get kind of odd-looking and grow slow, but not much kills 'em off. I had a 2+ foot long eucinid worm devouring all my zoanthids except the EvilMels. He'd chew a strip out of the middle of one of my colonies, and it would grow back in within a week.

I found that they form a loose attachment to the rock and can be pulled off in sheets. Was that not the case with yours?
 
I was able to scrap off the edge of one mat and just pull them up... easy to frag and people like them as they sorta resemble the famous PPE!
 
Yeah, I would have bought a few. You could have chiseled/dremeled off the 'offending' portions of the big rocks.

I wonder if evilmel did some kind of evilly diabolical incantation to make them hardier and grow faster than normal zoas??? ;) Boiling them? Hellfire only makes them stronger!
 
I suspect in the environment in her tank in the early days was so brutally harsh that what lived through it could take a beating and keep going. ;)

Hah hah...that's awesome. You totally should have sold frags to the Coral Reef.
 
I think Bermuda gives some pretty good credit toward trade ins... :D I think they're nice... They just need to be contained... Kinda like Xenia...
 
Bermuda? Blahhh: Bermuda < 5th-day, they always have a great selection and fair trade in value! Can't wait for Christmas when I'm down in Chatt visiting the family so I can pick up some more softies :)
 
AT BERMUDA AND FIFTH DAY YOU GET ONE THIRD OF WHAT YOU TAKE SO IF I TAKE A 50 POUND ROCK IN THERE I GET A 16 POUND ROCK BACK, ITS HARD TO FIND REALLY BIG ROCKS.
 
But if that 50lb rock is totally covered with 100's of zoanthids, you can probably work out an even deal somewhere.
 
I wasn't aware of the 1/3 rule... And lets not turn this into a "which LFS is better" debate... I had merely stated Bermuda because I know they give a good price for Evil Mel's and thought it a better option than bleaching them and not receiving anything...
 
I know you weren't... I'm just nipping it in the bud before it gets out of hand... There have been many threads closed in this forum due to "free advertising" and promoting LFS... I don't want this to become one of them...

Can't we all just get along???

Wish I had those rocks of Evil Mels, I woulda come up with some large rocks to trade!
