Excellent Coral Info Site

I just stumbled across an INCREDIBLE site for information about various corals. They seem to have an INCREDIBLE amount of information available. Here is an example page for Seriatopora hystrix.

http://whelk.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/html/301-400/Species pages/342.htm

Unfortunately, they seem to not have much of a search or index page in place. So I managed to successfully use Google to search their site for specific corals, etc.

http://www.google.com/advanced_search?as_sitesearch=whelk.aims.gov.au

Click on that link and then add your coral name in the first "Find Results" text box. It has been working VERY well for me.

Kudos to whoever whelk.aims.gov.au is... :)

I'm surprised you didn't know about this site yet, Paul. AIMS is the Australian Marine Institute of Science.

Here is their search page (which doesn't work properly) - http://whelk.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/coralsearch.php

And here is a shortcut to their index (which is what you get when you hit the search button from the above link) - http://whelk.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/coralid_search.php

With that, you can look up specifics, even with skeletal details with most of them. There are 794 corals. They only have Stony Corals though. No Soft Corals.
