i have 10 gallon nano. very fine sand grated. live rock replaced with new live rock after cooking for 3 months. i have clownfish safe but other fish keeps dying. my filtration is only sand and live rock. i have now 1 chromis which survived from last 1 week and 1 platinum clown which has survived since last 4 months. clownfishes are hardy but other fishes are delicate. i tried 6 line wrasse, banana wrasse, chromis,....... i tried firefish but it didnt eat at all(must be wild caught) but all of them die within 2 to 7 days in my tank.

Do i need hob filter or internal filter. i am running air pump for oxygen.
 
How much live rock? How long has the system been set up? Do you have anything for water movement? A chromis will get to big for a ten gallon. A small clown will be okay for a little while. If you get another fish, something small that stays small so your biological filter can keep up. Could test and see what your Ammonia, Nitrite , Nitrates are.
 
Uh...I just checked and the Banana Wrase is supposed to be in a 125G tank, having it in a 10G, with 3" of sand and rock on it (taking up a good chunk of the 10G) probably was cause of suicide at best, the 6 line is for a 30G. I did not keep looking them all up.
First issue you have is that you are trying to place several fish that are suited for much bigger tanks in less than 10G one. This is not only a matter of space but also bioload. I don't know if you are putting them all together but by your post I feel you are trying at least more than one at a time.
I would start by having fish that suits your tank then take it from there. By doing it the way you are you are putting too many variables at play, let alone the poor fish.

Tank way too small for what your doing.
It's like packing 25 people in a small bedroom....not going to work for long
 
You have two fish, what killed the fish may be unknown, but your tank is stocked. Stop adding other fish.
 
Water must have flow for the exchange of gases even in a 10 gallon
Otherwise they will suffocate....
 
There is almost no chance your clowns will tolerate another fish in a 10 gallon tank. A pair of clowns typically stake out about a 30 gallon patch of territory in larger tanks and are not willing to share that space. When your tank is under 30 gallons they claim the entire tank and will not suffer new fish being introduced. When you have at least 20 gallons you can sometimes get one or two other fish to survive provided they are placed in the tank before the clowns and the clowns are still young when added.

Filter good but not absolute if provided water is being exchanged regularly and is on point.
This would also provide some movement which is mandatory....
 
I know you really want that packed, ultra colorful tank that you see in advertisements and such but it's just not biologically possible in a small system such as yours. The clown and the chromis are probably more than that tank should even have in it so you need to stop adding fish. In my 10 gallon that I used to have I used a standard HOB filter that I took the media out of and added a diy water bottle skimmer and some chaeto with a small LED clip in light. Worked perfectly as filtration for me.
