Experiences with One Large Sump, Multiple Tanks

Greetings All- What are your experiences with having one large sump for multiple tanks? This is assuming that both tanks are healthy and all fish are doing well. I know that assumption is rather significant since if one tank becomes sick, so does all the others.

I linked a 150, 125, 75, and 3 55s through a common sump a few years back. No reason not to if husbandary is up to snuff and you like multiple pumps and plumbing. After a 2-3 years, it hit me that what I really wanted was a BIGGER tank - not more.

My advice would be to sedate the significant other (if applicable), tell the kids (if applicable) to be happy with 'state college' and forget Harvard and Yale, take out a house loan (interest is great), and buy that mega tank. :D You might as well do it BEFORE you have multiple tanks to move out of the way.

If that doesn't seem like the thing to do, then you will just have to man up. Go buy the tank and lie to the wife about the terrific deal that you found at a fish store going out of business.

Hope that helps.

There is a lot to be said for being happily unmarried.

Now, if I can figure out how to route that cold spring 1/4 mile over the hill and through the pasture and through my living room and get it stocked with trout...
