Experts- Rimless Build Dimensions Safe?

Hey Guys,

A friend and I are planning on building a custom rimless display tank. He's had some experience and is willing to help me out, so I'd really like to give this a go. The tank dimensions will replicate those of a standard AGA 29G; 30 x 12 x 18.

Now... for those of you who have had experience building rimless aquariums, do you think that 3/8'' glass is more than safe for those dimensions? I've seen similar builds out of 1/4'' but I'd really like to be on the safe side. We're also thinking about eurobracing the bottom of the tank for extra support. The stand it will be used on has a hollowed out bottom with support only on the sides.

PLEASE, any/all opinions and expertise appriciated, thanks! :)

my glasscages 29 is the same dimensions & made out of 1/4" w/ only the plastic frame. i'd think you should be good w/ 3/8"

feel free to check out my build thread & "borrow" idea for your build :D

Cali,

I would think 3/8" would be OK, but I am no expert. there is a glass calculator out there some where, found it:

I did have some people here on RC say they did not think 3/8" was thick enough for my tank 30 x 30 x 14 rimless, sooo......

wait and see what other say, or search for a rimless calculator.

good luck,
Aaron

1/4in will be fine rimless but if you have extra$$$ or young kids :D 3/8in would be great i have built alot of rimless tanks never eurobrace the bottom you dont need it on something this size jim

I agree 3/8'' will look great! Have you thought of maybe switcking you tanks dim. to 30x18x12? I really like the shallow look! JMO good look with the build.
