Exploding tanks

I do know several folks that have had solid GC tanks as well. However, I think their recent blowouts are serious cause for concern. I would sell that tank Dave and get a different one.

If you think it is going to fail how could you sell it to some else

That has been on my mind ever since I saw that blown out seal on that other tank Dave. Can you imagine 4 years down the road having invested thousands in fish and coral, coming home to find them on the floor. This is very upsetting. Anybody selling an inferior products should be put out of business. Not sure what I am going to do yet but one thing I will do is try to see that other people do not fall victim to GLASSCAGES.:angryfire:

Wow after reading that other thread and seeing what happed to your cross member. Has to make you wonder. If they hired some pretty crappy help or sumthing to just get tanks out the door. I thought they were the #1 place for custom tanks but now this and the fact there not that far from me Goodletville TN. almost Nashville. 160miles from Perryvile. And jacking with warrentys.. Thats pretty bad.

OK this thread is a bit of an eye opener.

My Mom and step father live in Nashville and this Saturday my step dad was going to go to the outlet day at Glass Cages and look around for me, is this a terrible idea?! I could really use some good advice here. I am planning on getting a tank somewhere in the size range of 100-200gal and was hoping to catch a good price but I obviously wont do this if this company has such a bad rap. Anyone have a 120-180gallon in nice condition they are looking to get rid of? I could use some solid advice please. Thanks

Before you take the plunge and buy a GC tank, you should definitely search GC on reef-central.

I have and I've read some of the horror stories but I can't get past the fact that they produce such a large number of tanks for so many suppliers and there is bound to be mishaps. I didn't see any threads from people who purchased from the outlet store.

Well, their warranty is useless and their customer service sucks. It also seems that we are hearing of more frequent tank blowouts than in the past. I think they have grown too fast and are taking shortcuts with labor. I used to be a fan of them because there were a lot of people around here that had their tanks and liked them. They were well built at one time, but a little sloppy with silicone. When I bought one from them, I specified 3/4" glass and it arrived with only 1/2" glass. The lady said "well, you paid for the 1/2" glass". The overflow was crooked too. I just think I would go with one of the more expensive companies that has built tanks for a long time.

^Yeah I've actually seen the sloppy caulk jobs they have done but I haven't had any friends with faulty tanks fortunately. The fact that my step dad can do a walk through and personally inspect the tanks makes it hard to pass up.

I don't think tank inspection will prevent a blowout.

Make sure you factor the potential cost of 200 gallons saltwater on your floor. I am as cheap as they come, but fear the disaster that could happen. I know its possible with all tank builders, it just seems like it happens more often with GC. The fact that if anything does go wrong, you will have zero luck getting it resolved with GC. I don't think I have read a single thread where an issue was resolved quickly or easily.

Case in point the issue with dbuesking. The customer is so unimportant that the euro braces are just sitting on the owners desk.

Good point.

Yeah that is just terrible what is going on with that tank.

I appreciate everyone looking out for me. Can anybody suggest a decent supplier for a tank then that is reputable?! Thanks again

I personally will only buy Aqueon or marineland. I know that I will be paying more, but I don't want $2000 of hardwood floors ruined.

My job is done here:thumbsup: If I can keep one person from being a victim as I was and steer them clear of Glass Cages then it is mission accomplished.:D

Don't give up on me I haven't bought anything yet!

If I were you I would keep my eyes open for a good clean tank. A lot of people these days can't afford to keep there tanks running and are getting out. 100 to 200 gal tanks go up for sale locally all the time. And they just had water in them. Just a thought.:D
