just got one today put it in the tank and haven't seen it yet, do they hid under the sand like the rest for a couple of days?

fairy wrasses do not hide in the sand. they hide in rocks and holes instead. it's probably still hiding and will likely emerge in the next few days.

when they sleep, they produce a mucus cocoon so don't be surprised when you see it floating around in the morning.

sry bit of an old thread but thats what happens when u use the "search" button.

i wondered why my new EFW alwasy had this "stringy" stuff around his favorite hising spot, and glad to hear that the hiding is normal. I recently got a beautiful African and she sure does look amazing when she does come out. New favorite looking fish so far. :)

EDIT: oops, after looking at many pics of differant sex's im pretty confident "she" is a he. tons and tons of pink, purple, and blue on him.

this isnt my pic, its another members gary majchrzak but its very close to mine. (hope u dont mind gary ;) )

that stringy stuff at his hiding spot is his mucus cocoon.

fairy wrasses produce these mucus when sleeping and often in the day you will see it floating out of his hole or stuck there.

it's harmless, don't worry.

btw that's a beautiful exquisite. cheap and one of my favourites.
