Extended reach tool

I found a long grabber tool at Harbor Freight last week. It is plastic and about 3 ft long. Its the trigger/claw type. I use it often and it seems like a great tool. What makes it best is that its priced at 3.99. Whats even better is that it rings up as 1.89!! It may not last as long as the name brand tools,..but I'll buy 10 and still be under the price of the LFS models. Just a thought.:D

Thanks man this sounds like it has some potential I picked up an aluminum grabber thing with suction cup handles at Rite Aid a month or so ago but i don't like it. It's hollow and water gets everywhere when I pull it outta the tank and my BBQ tongs are starting to rust from the saltwater=)

Yeah,..those super suck. This one is very nice. It doesnt have monster claws, but they are very sturdy and strong. They are also very precise. The claws are the size of fingers. I can arrange my derosa exactly how I want him and yesterday a 4x3 monti cap fell inbetween rocks and I was able to navigate into a cave and grab it with no hitch. Id like to see that with the giant 32 dollar claws!!! LOLOL I even usit it to wrap an airline to the claw,...run it up to the hadle and I insert the other end into my baster. I keep the baster bulb by the claw handle. The left hand steers the hose and the right holds the trigger and bulb. Wahlah,...cheap 2n1 feeder/claw!!! Works for me,..then again,..Im from the Dirty South and have a PhD in Southern Engineering. I just get it did. Thats all.

Opening it up now. .........................Looks like a nylon line will make a nice replacement cable. Good lookin out Dr.Doug.

Here it is.

Cool deal thanks for posting up the pics that looks perfect for reaching the back of my tank when frags fall

Its going to rust. Its a metal line and a metal coil inside. I had one and it broke. It broke apart and saw the rusted line.

Did you rinse it after you used it? I rinse mine as to hopefully extend the life. But at 2 dollars it's easier for me than coughin up the 32 samoleans for the name brand. I'll hack one up and use a nylon line and rubber band. Once again... Southern engineering.....@it's finest.

The tube in mine was steel as well (it looked just like yours) but could be replaced with pvc. DIY can be fun. Nylon or heavy fishing line is a good sounding alternative to the cable but I wouldn't use any rubber bands. I beleive the spring is in the handle and should be fine. For the record I never rinsed it (dang it was 2 bucks). I found a new one at walgreens for people in wheelchairs. It has aluminum and heavy plastic construction for around $22 and has been trouble free. I would also like to see a DIY thread. 30-40 bucks is crazy for those things.

Cool grabber gadget you got there... I used it to grab a crab while you weren't looking.... It worked well.... TROUBLE? :P

Could the metal on the inside be protected with petroluem jelly or something to protect it from rusting? Just wondering...
