extension cords

How bad is it to use short grounded extension cords on lights etc. I would like to run both the 10g and 29g on the same timers but they are on oposite sides of my room.

I would be more worried about the current flowing through the timer and what it is rated for. Just make sure you use the correct guage extension cord.

its a single stage coralife timer, which i plan on swapping out in the summer after i start making some real money. And i will run the 10k bulb on different timers for each tank. I also picked up a 8 switched american DJ power center so that i can hook up all my skimmers and powerheads to for feeding, water changes, etc. I got sick of digging out the power strips and unplugging things. thanks for the help

The local Lumber yards (menards) has digital timers for 18.00 that will handle 15 apms or 120x15=1800 watts. Should be sufficient for most any lights. Just get a larger extension cord 14 gague for 15 apms.

Ive got all pumps/heaters hooked up to the 8 switch american DJ strip which is rated for 15 amps and 1800 watts. Then all i have hooked up to the coralife timer is 2 moonlights(1 for each tank) and 2 athinic's along with an attached timer to control the other bulb on the 29g.

I have a nagging feeling I've seen posts where at least one model of Coralife timer was suspect. Yep! Check this:

yea, I saw those when i bought it.... kinda scared me, but im not pulling very many amps thru it, so I dont think the contacts will overheat, which seems to be the major problem with them. My buddy is an electrical engineer, and did not see major issues with it, plus im living with my parents right now
