External Skimmer ideas

Does anyone have any ideas for a good external Proeitn skimmer? I would prefer to keep it under 300 but a little more might be tolerable. I would put a different in my sump, but the dang thing is tiny (14X7X12 ish). Any suggestions would be great here. P.S looking forward to seeing everyone at the swap.

I am suprised no one has chimed in yet. I am also doing a little external skimmer research fo rmy next upgrade-- in a year or so.

That Reef Octopus doesn't look half bad at all. It looks like I might have to modify the feed plumbing a little to get it to work as an external.
I would do a bigger sump but there are two problems.

The first is that I would have to spend money on another sump and my wife would kill me.

The second is that this is going to be used on my frag tank that is already up and going and therefore would either have to be temporarily taken down or I would have to take out the center slat. As far as I can tell from most of the schematics that slat isn't weight bearing but I would really hate to have my tank fall on my head trying to prove it.

As far as DIYing up a skimmer, I really don't have that much free time right now and I probably am not the most handy man in the world. Maybe one of these days when I finally decide to get a job that isn't as demanding (and I have a few less hobbies). :D

I swear, if someone could make a decent HOB skimmer for a somewhat lower cost, you could make a bazillion dollars.

I wonder how many fish I could put in my tank if I was able to hook that up to the RSM.

Certainly I'd be able to feed every day.

edit: I just noticed that they CeeGee called the ASM G-3 a piece of junk!

edited again: I absolutely it when people use seam instead of seem.

Though this doesn't exactly apply...

$650!!!! Holy hell.

I don't get what it is about that skimmer that warrents the cost.

I know it's wicked awesome and in high demand, but why the hefty price tag? The pump? The parts from eheim?

I just don't get why reactors and skimmers cost so much. It's a piece of plastic, some plumbing, and a pump.

My favorite on the forums is "for sell" in place of "for sale."

Which is why you can cheaply DIY your own if you get the correct dimensions and have a good local acryllic supplier and some Weld-On. :)

I don't understand it either. That's why I was saying that I was curious if there is a lower cost good HOB skimmer.

Joel, there's a chick that I like a lot (who a bunch of others like a lot) who is very sweet that says sell instead of sale all the time.
