external skimmer options

Time to upgrade skimmer I think, I have a current fission now that skims but I doubt its nearly as good as others. trouble is I built my sump to fit the current and sump section is way too small (6x12) to fit much of anything so im thinking external. Trouble there is that all the skimmers ive looked at have very poor dimensions listed. I have 29" total height but the output tube would have to be over 18" as this is the sump height. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
btw I think the reef octo ddnw 150 looks like a good skimmer if itll fit and is at the upper range of what I want to spend @ 329.

Im surprised I didnt get any hits on this. Is the only way to get a good skimmer going to mean tearing down the sump to expand the skimmer section?

I use an aqua medic t1000 with the ocean runner pump. I use it as an external skimmer. Not sure if this would work with your sump or not, but a good skimmer in my opinion. Here is the link to it. If you look on the right side of this page it shows a picture of it as a hang-on-back system. The only downside to the skimmer is the directions are in german. If you get one and need help let me know.

I just switched skimmers from a octo DDNW that is only four month old to a bubbler master as the bubble master is shorter and fits my sump much better. I was going to list the octo for sale tomorrow. If you would be interested pm me.

There is a Super Reef Octopus 1000 Super Sump Saver that gets great reviews and has the pump inside the skimmer, it might still be too big. It think they have a hang on tank version of this skimmer also. Check premium aquatics.

I would suggest draining your sump and redo your baffles. You are severely limited in skimmer selection right now. An external skimmer could work, but I would be afraid of an overflow.
