Failed 6105

Roger-

It appears one of my 6105's has failed. It wasn't working at all tonight randomly. I took it apart, cleaned it in the sink then soaked it in half vinegar/half water for a couple hours. Still nothing. I'm going to let it soak over night but ...

When it's plugged into the PSU and powered up, the PSU light blinks slowly and slightly dimmer.

I swapped the PSU with the one powering my other 6105 and it still didn't start. Same symptom.

I assume it's the motor in the powerhead itself then?

Let me know what you think and what to do from here. I purchased it in February of this year from Premium Aquatics.

Thanks

The blinking usually indicates the pump is jammed, you should be able to easily pull out the propeller/magnet assembly and the shaft it spins on must be free of calcium, if these parts are fused together, it will cause what you describe, do not forcibly pull it apart, that could ruin the pump. If you cannot easily pull the prop assembly out, send it in, if you do get it out, soak the motor and drive unit in 50/50 vinegar and water for a few hours, soaking it fully assembled is not particularly effective as the spaces are too tight.

Thanks Roger.

I never had a problem pulling the prop out of the housing and it wasn't too dirty really. Regardless, I let it all soak over night, disassembled. Probably a good 12 hours total. This morning I rinsed it all off, it was quite clean, put it back together and still no love.

I assume I need to send this in for warranty repair/replacement? What's the procedure with that?

Is there some kind of advanced replacement? I'm already battling cyano so I'd like to avoid being down 50% flow as much as possible.

Thanks again!

You would send in the pump and power supply with a note that has your return address and phone number, within a day of receipt, we will replace the defective component and return it to you by UPS ground.
