Fair price for light

I found a light fixture that would be somewhat of an upgrade so I am considering posting mine for sale. Its a Current Nova Extreme, 8x54 T5's. It was purchased new last May, I replaced one bulb in Feb. 3 10k current, 4 actinic current, 1uvl 75/25.

What is a fair price to ask for this light? Its in almost new shape, fans both work and are quiet, lunars work, 3 plugs.

I found a current outer orbit, with 4 54w t5s and two 250w MH.

Noooo don't sell out to the MHs!!!!!! Just pick up an Aquatinics Constellation T5 fixture... that'll make you happy.

I would probably ask for around $300, maybe a little less. Whoever buys it will probably want to buy new bulbs in a few months, and at around $15-$25 (depending on brand) per bulb, you're looking at $120-$200 for new bulbs. That will bring you rather close to the price for buying it new.

I've done the MH and T5 combination thing before. It works pretty well. The only thing I'd say against it is that the MHs will almost completely drown out any effect you might get out of the T5s. Aside from doing a dawn/dusk simulation with the T5s, I didn't notice any advantage of using the combination over just using MHs.

I actually quite like this fixture I am using. I have been getting great growth on everything, sps, zoos, you name it. I am only considering going to the MH because I would like to put some more light hungry things towards the bottom of the tank.

Zach, email the Grim Reefer on Reef Central and tell him what you want to do.....he can suggest a combo of bulbs for your fixture that you have to get where you want to go.....he did it for me with my t5 nova extreme.....

Thanks Joe, I'm actually going off of a setup that he gave me, the ones I'm interested in are from Grim ;-)

Good T5s bulbs can give you just as much PAR or MORE than a 250w MH bulb. What kind of corals do you want to keep towards the bottom?

I wouldnt mind getting good growth with sps halfway down and I want another clam or two. My light now does a great job, I have no complaints with it. But I do like the shimmer with MH and think there are some benefits to upgrading. The main one being that I would be going from 432w to 716.

I kinda liked the shimmer that I had with MH too but I can live with out it. I think looking at wattage is a poor way to judge lights... you can have a million watt bulb with very low PAR that is only going to add heat to your water... I think that 432w is pleanty of light especially if you're seeing good growth as it is. I just think that it would suck to sell a fixture that you seem pretty happy with to get another one that may not be what you want.

Sell it for what you want to get out of it. If you get it you get it if not well you can always go down. :) Thats my theory...
