Fairy Wrasse Suggestion

I would like to get a Fairy Wrasse for my 60 cube. I have a clown, a possum wrasse, a mccoskers wrasse, a flame angel, and a goby. After reading about different fairy wrasses, I am a bit overwhelmed as to which would be good to keep in a peaceful tank.

Originally I wanted a whipfin or longfin fairy wrasse, but I now see that these may get aggressive fast. I was also considering a Lubbocks or Orange Back fairy wrasse. What does everyone think about these? Any other suggestions of Fairy Wrasse that are mild mannered?

Fairys and flashers should be fine together (well most fairys). Scotts and pyleis are known to be aggressive. I have a male lineatus, rhomboid pair, and flame pair and they are all peaceful. I believe most fairys are. No experience with lubboks or orange back but I think either would be fine.

Rhomboids are gorgeous and are peaceful. Orange backs are also peaceful and are one of the fairy wrasses that stay on the smaller side. I would recommend a pair or trio of exquisite fairy wrasses. They are quite peaceful and come in several color forms depending on the collection point.

I'll look into the orange back fairies. Thanks. Just wanted to make sure that the flasher would not get picked on.

A leopard wrasse would work well if you have sand for it to burry in.
I am actually getting a Potters Leopard as well. I wanted a fairy as well so I have more fish that would swim out in the open. Most of my fish tend to stay to the rocks minus the McCoskers.

Honestly, I have a flame in my 150g. He is BIG, and flashes across the entire tank. I don't think one would fit in a 60cube.

I have been doing some looking around with the suggestions here and other places and I think that getting several McCoskers flashers would be nice. Here is a pic of the McCoskers. Is this a sub-adult or a full male? I need to figure out how to tell male and female McCoskers apart. I would like to have at least 2 females.

Matt- check in with Greg this week. I was in today and he got a ton of flashers a few misc fairy wrasses.

Nice pic of that little guy, looking good. I would say that it is a sub male phase, on his way to terminal male.

Ya, I was actually in there today and he had a nice shipment in. There was one mccoskers there but it had a long filament. It looked similar to mine. I wonder if they would be ok together?

I would look for different species, mixing multiple same species males can be problematic sometimes.

Having several different species, especially when they look very different can make for a great looking wrasse tank IMO.

Keep in mind that you've only got 24" of space for the fish and flashers will stay smaller than the leopards and fairys.

:) between the two LFS I'm sure you'll be able to find some neat stuff.

Ya, I am just looking for female McCoskers. Not really interested in other males and I am having trouble finding females. I will keep my eyes open and check back there in a few days to see how Greg's shipment is doing. I just don't know about other flasher males in the tank. Wouldn't there be some aggression there?

Potters Wrasse are usually rated 'expert only' and IMO with good reason.
I would say..."don't waste your $"

Female fairy and flasher wrasses are very hard to come by in this hobby which is one thing I don't like lol.
Many times the 'juvi' wrasses come in marked 'unidentified' and are sold cheap...a few months ago, I got 2 juvi McCoskers for $20, that are turning into a nice pair.

Ya, after reading a bit I figured a Macropharyngodon meleagris or ornatus would be better suited for my tank. I have been told Potters are one of the hardest to get eating frozen.

I too am frustrated about the lack of females in the trade. I have a friend who goes to a wholesaler and says that they carry them. I am having him pick me up two female mccoskers and a leopard wrasse (melagris). I will post pics when I get them and see how they do.

The lack of females is def annoying... It took for ever for me to find one.

I like the rhomboid wrasse. I have a pair and they are awesome. I have 2 mandarin gobies (one green spotted and one blue) When I turn off the pump to feed the mandarins sometimes the rhomboid pair will eat right next to the gobies and never bother them even a little. The male chases the female everyday at around 3-4 but other than that its pretty peaceful. Even my gold assessors (have 2) dont run from them.
