Ok, I have been in the hobby for like 2 years now. And about a year ago started getting into the reef stuff. I have passed by these fairy wrasse a few times. I noticed the huge libraray of pictures of these guys, but I dont really see them at lfs. Are their like a hundred different species of fairy wrasse?

There is a lot of different ones and most aren't cheap( a relative term tho ;) ) that's probably why you don't see them in tanks frequently. I only order them when they are on sale or people are looking for a certain species.

Oh thats cool. I was checking out a few and they look neat. What kind of tank and setting should they be in? how big?

Depends on what type of wrasse, I have a 6" Scott's fairy wrasse in a 120 but you could get some others in a 55gal. I think most fairy wrasses get between 3-4" and some are relatively cheap like a Longfin Fairy, Lubbocks, and others just check out Liveaquaria they have sales every now and then. Also remember fairy wrasses for some reason can't stand one another my Scott's has killed 3 other fairy wrasses I tried to put in the tank with him.

Actually Fairy wrasses will cohabitate quite nicely. You just have to keep from trying to keep two males, of similar size and color.

I currently have a couple lubbocks and a solar wrasse in my 65. The lubocks were 25 canadian and the solar was 50. These would be some of the less expensive types. Other can range up to a hundred or more.

I currently have 2 in my 180... a scott's fairy and a velvet colored.

Both get along fairly well (in fact they ignore each other for the most part).

What type of fairy wrasses did you add with the Scott's? The first one I added was a 4-5" Scott's fairy, followed by a Labouti, Peacock and Pink Margin. I have never noticed any aggression between any of the males and they hang out together frequently. Of course as Thurge pointed out these all have different coloring and they are smaller than the Scott's.

I second checking out Liveaquaria. All my wrasses were ordered from them, I highly recommend. They get about any fariy wrasse that exists, except some of the very rare ones.

There are tons of different Fairy Wrasses. Most of the really cool ones come from deep waters (100-150'). Which means they are much harder to find and collect in the wild. Hence the reason the price is so high on them.
