Yes I did not mean that I wanted to fool the Clownfish. I just wanted to give him more comfort if the fake Anemone would afford it to him better than no Anemone at all.
If you have LR in your tank, then I think that would be just as good as anything. Clowns do not need an anemone to be happy. Even if the purpose is breeding, they still do not need an anemone. Is there anything in the tank for them to need to take cover?
They are not gonna pay the fake one any attention so I would say don't waste your money. If you have the adequate lighting, you can spend 15 or 20 bucks more and get a real one.
He sort of is hosting the shrooms. he lingers where the largest Ricordia lives, and he does his "water humping" in open water rather than in an Anemone. He does not use the shrooms yet, but I look forward to him doing it one day.
I have had a fish only tank with fake anemones in it, my klarki picked one anemone that he liked and treated it like it was real. It tried to feed it, hide in it and everything.(lol it was soo cute) My guess it's a hit or miss.
Last night I noticed my Maroon Clown hovering over my largest piece of Ricordia (<<<---misspelled?). Will the Clown help feed the Ricordia by chewing up food, and dipersing it over the mushrooms??
I like the idea of having my Clown in a hosting fake Anemone. I feel a little bad that he might try to care for it though. Anyway, I guess it's a crap shoot. They seem to really like Anemones, and if I can make him happier then I will try to do so. Thanks.
I have one Ocelleris and he was recently moved from a 12g nano into 55g (I just don't have time to maintain both tanks). In the nano, he was hosted by a very large pair of Ricordea. I moved both to the new tank and he never even went near the Ric again. I have a giant Hammer, Frogspawn and Torch that he never goes near. He used to really love a Candycane that was in the nano. Now, he just hugs the bottom of the tank. It appears that he finds an area where the current isn't as strong and sunggles into the sand. I have a pretty strong flow in the tank because it has SPS and I think he's just looking for a little relaxation. He still eats like always. I'd introduce a BTA if I knew it wouldn't roam all over the place.
I have a false percula that I used to have in my 29 gallon FOWLR and I had fake corals in there.. I had one that was kind of like an anemone.. long stringy looking thing.. anyway, it was just rubber.. but the clown hosted in it like an anemone.. I have since taken the 29 down and have the clown in my 75 gallon reef where he hosts my mushrooms.
