Fall swap – demos

At the fall swap we are hoping to do a couple of demos for members. Two ideas we have (which I can do, if no one else) are a fragging demo (how to frag, how to mount corals), and a tank-drilling demo (yes, you really can drill your own tank).

Do you have other specific demos that you’d like to see (if we can find someone to do them)? Or, do you have a demo you would like to do? Please post here, or send a message!

GL, do you mean like how do you build one yourself? Or just the setup, parameters, etc. for a typical commercial one? We could probably find someone with an old one to do the latter, details might vary from model to model though. Maybe that would be more of a "how to, why to do it" kind of presentation almost?

I would think just setting up, tunning and maintaining an over the counter unit. Some do's and don'ts, trouble shooting, etc.

Thanks,
Greg

I'll add to that.....

I'd also like to know how to add a solenoid and pH monitor to a setup. I have a CR reactor and I understand the basic tuning, but I know when the power turns off in my house, the pressure from the pump goes away and the bubble count from my CO2 quadruples. I have no idea how to setup a pH monitor and a solenoid to help restrict CO2 usage on a daily basis and shut it off in a power failure.

I could probably guess..but I'd rather know. :)

Hmm, we'll have to look into how to do this. I know with some of the multi-controllers (Neptune, etc.), you could program them to turn the power on/off to a pump depending on a Ph reading. But that probably requires power, and I wonder what they fall back on (on or off) if the controller loses power.

We need to consult some experts. How would we do this as a "demo"? I guess it be more like a 15 minute talk about tuning a CA reactor, what you need to monitor with it, or how to add solenoids and controllers into a system?

Thanks gang.

Most of the controllers have a battery backup if I am not mistaken. Well I wouldn't buy one without it for the money they cost!

This is great, a demo we have never done before! :)

I'll tell you what...Even if my tank is setup by then I won't need to have my CR running since I will have very little if any coral load. That means I'll have a CR sitting around that is not being used...It's the one we did a "group by" on through RC.

I'd be willing to donate THE USE OF IT to somebody trustworthy to demo the setup and get it back to me in one piece. I don't plan on buying a controller yet (too much $$$), but if there is another way to setup a standard probe and solenoid I will buy them for the demo provided I get it all back to hookup to my system.

I have a CR, CO2 tank, recirc pump and MAYBE a feed pump someplace. All ready to go...as long as somebody takes care of it. :)

The CR has been sitting in my basement for over a year now so the water in it can't be used for a live system but it's already setup and choc-full-of-media that I will probably have to throw out before I use it for real.

Let me know...you people know how to reach me. :) ..although I moved since my last involvement with the club...and got married ....and had a kid...busy busy busy.

Maybe we can talk Mary into letting us use my PinPoint Controller for the day. She is currently using it to monitor Ph.
