Fallow tank question

I am treating my fish for what I think is ick and I am letting my tank stay FALLOW for 72 days. My only consern is that I have to move my tank onto a new stand in the next week. I plan on removing and scrubbung the live rock in saltwater to get off bad algea and other stuff and then keeping it in the drained tankwater, I will also take out my sand and clean it very well since it hasnt been cleaned in a while. I am planning on keeping as much of the water as possible to avoid going though ammonia spikes. My question is, will this process affect the ammount of time I need to leave my tank fallow (will I have to reset the clock) or does it make no difference since the DT contents will never make contact with fish?

Yes, no contact fish (even you need to keep fish in another room), your fallow days will not change. Some experts here recommends 90 days.

Best of luck

90 days is the recommended fallow phase as is 90 days the proper qt time.Unfortunately with ich it can remain in the sand bed .I would continue to keep it fallow for a total of 90 days including time served.

Ok I will do 90 days. I plan on cleaning the sandbed with freshwater when I Move the tank so hopefully that will flush out any ick.

Do I need to do water changes while that tank is fallow? Since there is no feeding going on I imagine that there is little need.

I did water changes and fed my 140 gallon when I went fallow. I have read that the temperature that the tank is kept can effect the fallow period. Lower the temperature the longer fallow should continue. So if you clean everything in cold water.....anyone have thoughts on this? A few extra days to be safe?

Good luck.

There is no point in keeping any of the water from the move. The water does not cause or prevent a cycle. If you are planning to take out the sand you might as well replace with new sand. The only way you will get a significant cycle is if a lot of stuff on your rock dies from the scrubbing. If it were me, I would do pretty much a 100% waterchange during the move and not bother with any more until the fish are ready to go back in. I did this a couple years ago and my tank never looked healthier. How long has the tank been set up?
