false and true percs

so how is t that you tell the difference between false and true percs

i know one is true from the ocean and one is tank raised but how do you acctually tell the difference

they are 2 different species. Either species can be acquired either captive bred or wild caught.

A. percula are "true percula"
A. ocellaris are "false percula"

It is very difficult to tell the differnce. The body shape is a little differnt as is the number of spines in their dorsal fin (sort of) but the best way is to know where they are caught.

Some people claim to be able to tell by looking at the eye, if there's a very distinct circle around the pupil it is percula and if it looks muddier around the pupil then ocellaris. This is far from a perfect way to tell but can be helpful.
