what is the average size of a tank raised false perc. and BTA? I am holding off on my reef tank plans until February(income tax!!!) has anyone successfully kept a BTA in a 20g tall? i might be getting a 40g or 55g come february depending on local deals and craigslist LOL. BTW, i plan on having one BTA, 2 false percs, some cleaners(suggestions?), and some polyps. plus i'll have either a 10 or 20 gallon sump. and corallife super skimmer.

I currently have a BTA with 2 percs in a 12 with 2 shrimp. All seem to be doing well, just as long as I keep up with the tank parameters. I say you should be good, though some may not agree.

come on peeps!!! what's the average size of a false perc? i've heard 3",3.5",and 4"

I'm not not sure what the average size is, but mine are both around 1.5", and the BTA is around 5" when opened up. My true percula just found it last night and is now hanging out in it.

I'm not sure on the exact age, but the clowns are about 1.5" in length and i've had the one in the tank for a week now, and the other for 3 days. The BTA was purchased and placed in the tank 8 days ago, and when fully blown up is about 5' in diameter.

I know I already answered this through PM, but figured if anyone else wanted to know.

I have personally seen a 3.5" to 4" female false percula and her 3" mate (A.Occelaris) that were 8+ years old in a tank at a fish store I used to frequent. That was Hutton's in Cedar Rapids Iowa. The store and they are long gone.

I've owned ones that grew to 3" over a period of 6 years before a power outage did them in. This was in 1998. These 2 were wild caught from the Philipines.

It's was not uncommon to see 2 to 2.5" wild caught examples back before 2000 but that said, anymore what you see is juvenile tank raised examples almost everywhere. You can find them, it just takes time and a supplier you trust. A captive-bred mated pair from a reputable breeder might be a good start if you can find a breeder selling his brood stock.

The larger fish are GORGEOUS in the aquarium. If you're patient, they do get that big. A larger (125 gal +) lightly populated aquarium and a meaty diet also help.

GL!
