False Percula

Moved On
Hey guys, I just got a baby false percula about 5 days ago. He likes the upper part of the tank the best.

My question is will it host in my hammer coral? Right now I am getting into reefing and I am going slow. I also have a Condylactis Anemone in there but I doubt it will host that.

Also, since I have a Condy, is it also ok for me to get a BTA. I heard that you realy can't have two anemones of different kind in one tank.

It may, it may not host in the hammer. I have seen very few host in a Condy so I wouldn't put my money on either of them. Its really up to whatever the clown feels most comfortable in.

By the way, that Niger Trigger is not reef safe. How long have you had the coral? Trigger? Tank been set up?

Going by the book, a Niger is not reef safe but I go by experience. My Niger doesn't bother any of my inverts. He stays away from all my corals and occasionally he will pick up a crab or snail but usaually he won't harm them.

I have had the Hammer for about a week and the Trigge about 6 months. The tank is about 7 months old. My Niger is very peaceful. Nothing to worry about here ChunksInClemson.

Chunks gave you some very good advice, you'd be wise to heed it.

If you are not going to listen to the advice given by folk who know more (a LOT more) than you do,,, then why ask questions here in the first place?

Seriously,, a Trigger with corals,,, you don't QT fish ,,,,, a condy under PC's ,, a trigger AND a Tang in a 55g?

Ever though of taking up Golf?

Chunks, maybe your right. Maybe my Niger will turn against my intention of getting a fuller reef tank but for now he is doing awsome.

I am quite glad he is in there bc today I bought a piece of liverock and it came with a bristle worm which I don't really like and my niger found it and ate it. I knew there was one bristleworm in there bc I saw it get into a crack I could not reach at the lfs. I searched for more but found none. This piece of lr doesn't have any holes for it to disappear in so it was only one.

But my point is that my Niger isn't doing any harm to any corals. When he outgrows my tank, he will be going to a huge 400 gallon. :)

My *BABY* Blue Tang will be going to a 450 gallon reef when he exceeds 5 inches.

And my Condy is actually doing pretty good. He got a lot darker in brown since I introduced him which means the Zooxanthellae algae within it is proliferating.

Any other comments are welcome

BTW Juck, my sports are basketball and Waterpolo...I am not very good at golf. :)

Niger triggers are a planktonic species. Same idea as the blue throats and pink tails. Which can be considered as reef safe as triggers come. I have seen nigers in a reef. I guess those reefkeepers are not listening to the rules?

As with any creature we put in our tanks they can be hit or miss. My mystery wrasse is tearing through my inverts like no tomorrow. Because of this are all mystery wrasses not reef safe? Do you see where I am going with this?

As well when someone is new to a hobby such as this it takes time. With the right advice anyone can get to any level they aspire to. Making comments such as "ever thought to take up golf" really don't do any of us any good. We all had to start somewhere. Why not assist and encourage? Rather than belittle. Everyone in this hobby is learning. Some have more of a curve ahead of them than others. Cut some slack and help. If you don't want to help in a constructive method, then don't post. easy as that.

Would you rather be known as somone who drove another aspiring reefkeeper out of the hobby due to ridicule or helped someone develop into something they never thought they could be.... Think about it.

Well Chunks, I introduced a Coral Banded Shrimp to my tank today and my Niger first swam really fast to it but then swam away. He keeps looking at the CB shrimp but hasn't made any moves and I don't think he will. Usually if a trigger was going to eat something, he would do it right away.

So I am so far safe to say my Niger is reef safe.
