Fan Placement on Canopy

Hi all. Below are two designs for fan placement on a T5 hood. Which option would give better cooling?

The hot spot on T5 bulbs has been said to be where the writing is on the bulb...keep that in mind when designing your flow

I would put 1 120mm fan on each side both blowing in and a vent hole in the middle on top. I wouldnt want salty air blowing across electronic fans as it would increase the degredation rate of the motors and/or bearings depending on what fans you end up getting.

P.S. - If you have a normal 120 and not a tall 120 i would suggest maybe 2 120mm fans on both sides. If your only running T5's and not Halides just the 1 on each side should be fine for cooling.

you don't want your fans sucking air from inside the tank, it will kill the fans in short order. I would do as JPReef says with the fans blowing in with vent holes in the top or back or both.

I have my fans blowing in from the back. I dont want the fans visible. The outflow vents are in the top/front of the canopy.

Cold air in on the label end of the bulb (cold spot) out on the other end

bulbs should be at 95 F for max output
