fans on biocube making noise

ive had my biocube for about 2 months now, and a few weeks ago one of the fans started to make some weird noise. i found out that if i tapped the side it would stop. eventually i realized that if its left alone for about 10 mins the noise stops and the fan runs normally. now about 3 days ago teh other fan started making noise, itried doing the same thing (tapping the side) and it works for about 5 seconds adn then the fan starts making a weird noise again. i tried opening up teh hood, but i didnt see anything out of the ordinary...anyone have experience with this? any ideas on what it might be? its really annoying...

Tighten the screws and then put a dab of silicone on them to keep them from becoming loose again. If you ever have need to remove the fixture the silicone will easily be pulled off.

im thinking of replacing the fans becuase it is really getting on my nerves (my tank is in my bedroom), but first im going to send out an email to oceanic and see what they have to say about it, because my tank is still under warranty i think.

Let us know what you find out from oceanic cause I have the 14g one and it's making that fan noise as well and it's getting on my nerves..

well heres what Ive done to try and get them quiet...but failed :(

1. Tighten Screws-Failed
2. Loosen Screws-Failed
3. Flip fans upside down/rightside up-Failed
4. Add popsicle sticks to try and lift up fans so they wouldnt scrap against frame-Failed
5. Add cloth to try and soften vibration-Failed
6. Add fans to OUTSIDE of vents-Failed

SOO what I did was remove the fans completely and then I got one of those clip-on fans and put it facing toward the vents and it seems to be doin alright....
HTH

lol oh man, thats alot of things...well as soon as i hear from oceanic i'll let you guys know whats up. if they dont offer much help, im going to replace the fans with another type of fan from a computer store or somethign..

Blackbear,

please let us know what they say!! Computer fan...didnt think of that, may look better than this clip-on
Good Luck!

I have a BC 8, and I think the fans are noisy enough to begin with. I'm currently looking around for very, very cheap and quiet alternatives that will fit in the stock location, no luck yet. Post links if you got em

if you're going to replace the fans, i think the easiest thing to do would be to take the fans from the biocube to a computer store in order to find the right size fan

Brilliant.

I have a 29 and a 14 and had the same problem. Called oceanic and they sent me out new ones. It seems to have been the magnet in the fan. The propeller part would stay still or hardly move and the motor would keep spinning. For a short time tapping on it would work, but soon after they would stop. Good luck.

did they send you new fans? or a brand new hood? and umm i hate to be a bother, but would u happen to have that number you used to call them? i sent an email, but i figure it will take a while, and im kinda impatient ... thanks

nothing yet...its friday night so i cant call em, but i will call them on monday as soon as i get a number to call..

ckekelle,
i tried calling and is said the call cannot be completed as dialed...perhaps theres a typo in the number? anyone else tried?
