fantastic...nudibranch

i posted this in reef discussion but i thought it might get a better response here...


so, i just turned on the lights tonight after three days to help with algea...it worked like a charm...my tank looks brand new... anyway, so im looking around and i see a big fat nudibranch on my glass...fantastic... the only zoos i have in my tank i thought person who sold them to me had QT first. So, im getting more zoos next week, so should i go ahead and isolate all of my zoos and dip them all? what are the chances that there was only the one nudibranch and there are no eggs? also, how long can they survive in a tank without a host?

dip all zoos reagardless who they come from, as you never know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i should QT them all? how long? 5 weeks? how long can nudis last without host?

Are you sure it was a zoo nudi? anmy monties int he tank? Seems to me a zoo nudi would be on the zoos... Not all nudis eat coral.

None the less you really should dip everything you get. I had isopods come out of a zoo shipment from ebay this week, ya never can tell what might be lurking.

just a fw dip will kill it. no need to qt imo.

you should qt bc the eggs survive the dip. the dip kills any nudi that is on the frag but not the eggs if there are any. hth.

okay.....so how long do i need to QT and how many dips.... i was thinking 4-5 weeks with a total of three dips in RO water/ Furan 2...how does this sound?

Tagging along. I had the same problem in my old tank, but it got out of hand because I didn't know what it was at first. I can add that zoo eating nudis will crawl around on the glass and lay eggs. I've seen it. Which brings up the QT problem. If you miss any eggs on the zoos, then the eggs will just follow you into QT. I guess if you keep treating for a while, eventually they all have to hatch and you kill them all, but I too would like to know how long to QT.

Lastly, I've heard (and I have no idea how true this is) that the eggs will stick around in your tank and just not hatch for some long period of time even if you pull all the zoos out. Anyone have any idea if that's true? Or how long you should wait before putting zoos back into a tank? In other words, say you pull the zoos and treat and QT. But there are nudis on the glass in your maintain running around laying eggs. How long do you QT the zoos. And how long do you need to keep your tank zoo free?

One more thing, I saw a post somewhere that said certain damsels eat these nudis. Anyone know if that's true?

I know I just posed more questions than answers, but hopefully they help you out. In my new tank, I'll be dipping every zoo that comes through.

I QT all my zoas for 3week's and do a RO dip every day 2times a day for the 3week's some will say that i dont need to do that but i have had the same nudi and they are no fun and no one know's how long they can survive without a host I know I dont and I have not seen eney thing on how long they can survive without a host. I do know that they dont just eat zoa's I have a 70g tank with just nudis and i put one in the tank in a little pet box and it lived for a long time. Some one told me that the yellowtell damsel will eat them but like msn711 i dont know you see a lot of thing's on RC so it's your call.

I had these as well. Luck has it I'm very good at detecting moving things and was able to control my population by turkey basting out all the nudies even the very tiny ones. That was a month ago and I am being very vigilant. I had read several places that if you RO dip every other day and place infected zoos (ie any zoos that are in your tank when the infestation breaks out) in QT for 6-8 weeks you should be able to catch/kill all the nudies on the zoos, any in the show tank without a host and it also allows time for any eggs in QT or ST to hatch and be killed/die. Good Luck! I hated and will always hate those nudies...
