ok please fill me in on this store or what ever it is FAOIS?, and what in the world is cheato? all i know is alot of ppl get rid of it for free???? fill me in ppl lol thanks :hmm4: :hmm4: :hmm4:

FAOIS is about the best store around here for saltwater anything. They have very good prices. Info it top notch and anything and everything saltwater you could want they have or can get.

Cheato is an algae that people use in a fudge that sucks up nutrients as it grow. Needs pruning every now and again so thats why you see people getting rid of it.

Welcome to TBRC stay awhile and make yourself at home. Lots of good people here.

FAOIS is a great reef store in Oldsmar.
Cheato (Cheatomorpha) is a macro algae that folks use in their refugiums for the removal of NO3 and PO4 from the water.

ok so what does it stand for and where is it located i would love to see an new store FOAIS... and im guessing cheato is bad after so long or does it just over grow? also i was reading about the stores that are TBRC sponsored what does the sponcership mean or does it effect us at all or just recommended to go to and i noticed Mystic Marine Life was a sponser and thats who im going to go see is "Ray" over there he has been nothing but the best to me in my experience as a new salt hobbiest, so now since im on the subject i will all let you know my past and present experiences in starting my saltwater tank :)

cheato is a good macroalgae in that it aids in elimination of nitrates in the water column. When they say it needs to be trimmed, it is like any other plant in that it grows, and can outgrow it's space. So either trim it and give it away, or trim and trash.

My Name is Aaron M, 18 yrs young and i live in tampa/carrollwood area, ihave had interest in animals for years as a kid and growing up it was just something i liked considering my dad had a 10 and 20 G fresh tank that he had since he was 7 so anyway when i was of the age to get a job i only enjoy jobs that i can enjoy everyday and take pride in so i tryed applying to petsupermaket near me and no luck over many attempts of talking to the manager so one day after i stopped working at autozone i tryed one more time to apply at psmrkt online and winded up at petsmarts web site long story already but to make it short i applied there and got a call back the next day.. i started working there for about a year and through customers and what not i met a lady and her bf that had a 55 gallon tank setting up for oscars well i helped them out with everything but they didnt get a filter from us they later got it from walmart bad idea ppl ..so anyway uncertain unexplainable events happened and few weeks later a customer called and was needing help with her tank she had two oscars in it and the tank was filthy and smelling up the house and she didnt want the tank anymore becuase her bf suddenly died and it was his tank so after many calls she wanted it gone since it reminded her of him and was smelling up the house so i went to go pick it up and it was the couple i helped ......so thats how i enherited my 55 gallon tank she just wanted someone to take care of the oscars and see it go to someone who would take care of them which i still have them.... so working at petsmart and shopping around freshwater wasnt very exiting to me and i was like hey since i have this tank and i work at a petshop why not go salt so i went with salt and a buddy of mine that worked at petco helped me with the salt and getting it started with fish ......

then since i started mine he was so exited about mine he wanted to start one too and he had a 55 he was sitting on but instead of salt he went with fresh since we shopped around local stores he didnt want to put the expence into the hobby... so that brings me to my my store experience as we shopped around we went to marine warehouse my first store to talk about what i was going to do with the tank well i will say i wasnt to impressed with the customer service i experienced as a new hobbiest most of the men working were rude and didnt want to answer my questions and seemed care about other things and not share advice to a novice the only one to seem like they cared was the only ladie that was working she was nice and giving advise to starting my tank i have never gone back to them and dont plan on it

then there was coral reef aquariums, the owner! very nice and knowledgeable and eager to share his experiences as a hobbiest reccommended this and that verse other things and told me if i didnt do it his way i was doomed for failure and my tank would not be able to hold what i wanted then everytime i asked the guy in the back what hi opinion was it was like he told me the right way for him and said again nothing else would work aswell well i didnt want to do it there way and i didnt i still like coral reef
..but again tey were very arrogant at times but very helpful with information

then my buddy told me of a new store in odessa mystic marine life ... we took a drive one day and i met "ray" now i must say he has helped me set up my tank and keep it going with all of the best advise when i first went in and started asking questions he was attentive and talked me throught the ropes of saltwater with every question he had an answer and told me the way to a success full tank with easy maintainence and it ws funny that when i told him what i wanted and the tank i was putting them in he told me i would eventually want a bigger tank one dya and i told him no, and it winds up today that im converting to a 90G tank lol now working at another loval petshop that just opened up many ppl from TBRC have recommended me to the site for help and advise and i am greatful for findin such a site it seems people are out to help one another which is hard to see or find in todays world unfortunatly but i am greatful for all of the help and advise from all of you reading this i apologize for spelling errors and grammar lol and to let you all know who ever is in my area i do work at Petland on n. dale mabry on the outskirts of lutz so if you like please come visit me to talk and share experiences fell free to contact me anytime

My suggestion: Spend a lot of time reading around here on reef central for basic questions and solutions, search (when the function is available) or just look through all the pages of "new to the hobby".

To make the SEARCH function work, go to the Reef Central home page and become a supporter or RC. I think it costs $20.

Welcome to the hobby. Coral Corral (which is almost across the street from FAOIS) is another good store to check out when you're down there.

I've been in that PetLand (gf likes to go and play with the dogs lol). When did you start working there?
