Fatality

I killed my first aiptasia just a few moments ago. I used my own method, but looking back, I'm not sure if it was safe for my reef. The aiptasia was on a rock of GSP. I heated up a knife, took out the GSP, and burned that sucker off. I figured coral aren't sentient, so I'm not hurting anything, and if some GSP do get harmed, they'll just grow back anyways. Also, I think the aiptasia will have a hard time regenerating with it's cells all ruptured. So, is my method a no go, or is it good?

We've had folks use a small butane torch in the past to burn them off, so your method isn't completely novel. :D

The only thing to worry about would be damage to nearby corals, and since you're talking GSP, it shouldn't be a problem. Wouldn't want to do it in the midst of a small frag of prized zoas or expensive LPS coral though.

:eek2: OMG! Tim, the toolman method!!! But I can see where the frustration of the little pests would take someone to that extreme!
