Faux Sand Bed

I'm thinking of making a faux sand bed. I like the benefits of a barebottom but not the looks.

Can someone help with ideas or links? I remember seeing some here before but is there a thread on this?

I've tried using aquarium silicon to adhere sand to acrylic sheets but it doesn't hold well and comes out patchy with bald spots.

Thanks.

tryed Starboard? silicone, will not adhere to acrylic very long. quickcrete cement, thin, the top layer with sand will also work. the curing time is a factor though. ive heard some say 3 weeks if you have massive flow, while others have stated, up to 3 months. REEF-ON!!!

I used the Envirotex Lite and it works AWESOME. The sand totally stuck to the starboard, and it would take a chisel to get it off. Curing time is only a couple days too :)

You could make an aragacrete wall...er, slab for the bottom. Then you could get creative (add caves, holes for frag plugs, outcroppings, walls, etc). I am doing a small 5.5g nano like this...no sand, no LR, just cover the back, one side, and bottom with aragacrete and make it one large piece. A couple caves that go into the glass for easy viewing, and holes for frag plugs built right in to the bottom.

My plan is exactly like Hahn's. More "texture" than just the epoxy and sand. Though with the 'crete, it'll be harder to clean any algae off of it. Keep your chems good and use critters:)
