Favia Feeding?

When you're feeding lps corals, ( Favias, in my instance ) is it necessary to feed each individual polyp or does the food one polyp eats transfer nutrients to the whole colony?

I had a similar question... as time went by the colony grew well and I fed whichever polyps that took the food(pellets) it grew very fast.. It was a war coral.

I believe the whole colony benefits.

Proper lighting and keeping your parameters within limits is more important to the coral than food though IME.

Thanks for your responses! Although the lighting and water chemistry are more important, is there a substantial growth rate increase with target feeding?

The coral needs to build skeleton first and if your parameters such as Alkalinty, Calcium & Magnesium are not up to par so to say this won't happen.

Favia Feeding?

All I can say is weenies and cheesewhiz if you want explosive coral growth. If you want just good growth, don't worry about feeding them at all and let them eat fish poop or feed them every great once and a while. If you go the weenie and cheesewhiz route, make sure each polyp gets equal amounts of weeny and cheesewhiz. If you want to really spoil them, mix in some chili, but make sure the chili DOES
NOT have beans in it if you're in Texas. Texas corals do not like beans in their chili!
