I have a favia that is purple and has green mouths. But there is a problem the green is very faint to the point of the coral just being purple.

Also they will not put there feeding tentacles out hints I can't feed them.

Would this be from lighting?

Light - 4 24w bulb t5 3 blue wave and 1 10,000k
Tank - 40 gal breeder
Parameters-Alk 8dkh, Cal 480, N 3ppm, P 0.5, PH 8.0

Bring alkalinity up a point or two drop calcium to a maximum of 450 and since ph fluctuates try to keep it between 8.2-8.5. If you don't see improvements within the first few days try moving the piece a bit higher. Your PO4 nd NO3 are low so wouldn't worry too much about those. Lately I have been reading that ultra low nutrient systems may slow down growth rate and be detrimental and inhibitive to full and illustrious coral coloration.

What do you mean ably ultra low nutrient systems.

I'm not saying that your PO4 is causing the problem,but I definately wouldn't consider 0.5 to be OK!! Unless you meant it was 0.05 , which would be much better.

By ultra low nutrient system I mean NO3 and PO4 being at or near 0. This doesn't even happen in the ocean. If you are worried that it is too high then feed less and do more water changes. I have seen great lookin tanks that have more nutrients than yours. Every tank is different but the parameters are their to give you a guideline for what a normal operating range is.

When troubleshooting aircraft we go for the easiest most viable inexpensive solution first, if you don't see the change your looking for then you may want to consider upgrading lighting. 4 t5 bulbs should be more than enough on a 40 gallon breeder.

I moved the coral to the bottom of the tank on the sand bed.
If it dose not look any better in a week I will move it up a little.
I hope this plan works.
