Favia placement

Where do you guys place your favias? I had mine on the sand for a few months and he was living but never thrived.

Now I placed him on a rock about halfway up and his polyps are out a lot more. Just curious if I should glue him to the rock or let him just grow natural

Mine has always been on the sand, well away from any corals and it's growing very well.

i have about 6 or 7 different types of favia in my 125. I think 2 of them on rock on the sand bed and the others are all mid level in the rock work of the tank. all growing and healthy. amongst various softies, other LPS, and a few SPS

In nature, they spread over rock. I'd mount them there once you are sure that the location suits them - light, flow, far enough away from other corals, etc.

I've kept them on both the sand and the rocks without any problem. Very undemanding coral IME.
