I've had this favia since the end of June/beginning of July. I have a 29 gallon lit by a 250w halide that is about 12 inches from the surface of the water. For the first few months, the favia looked great. It held its bright red centers and purple edges. However, at some point, it started to fade in color and the purple started turning more brownish looking and you could see skeleton in spots. I moved it over to my 10 gallon frag tank which was lit by a 96 watt quad Coralife Aqualight. I thought the halide might have been part of the issue even though I bought it from a system similar to my main tank. While it was in the 10 gallon, it started to get its color back so I moved it back to my 29 and put it inside a cave-like structure to shade it more in case the halide was too intense for it. It's been in my tank since November and I am noticing the fading again.
Does anybody else have a similar piece? Or any ideas on what may be causing it? All my parameters are at 0 and everything else in my tank is happy and growing. I have several other favias and 1 of them was bought at the same time as this one and it has grown several inches without any noticeable color change. I plan on moving this back over to the frag tank when I can make some room. I just don't want to have to keep such a nice piece over there instead of in the main tank. Any ideas on what I should do or what is causing this?
