Favorite Anthias?

Respendant Anthias.

I have 7 from Live Aquaria and they are great. The male turned into a supermale and is stunning. Not too big and very mellow.

I'd never heard of these. Very pretty. Every site I looked at specifies that this species is not covered on the arrive alive policy. They must be a more advance fish like you say.

They very rarely will eat. Tukas are one of the hardest fish to keep that are "commonly" available.

I've always wanted to get some of these. I love the look of the females with their yellow snouts. How long have you had them? Do they swim around as much as other anthias, or are they more rock "hugging"?

here is a pic of one of my tuka after 8 months in the tank, they need a peaceful tank or they will not eat, you have to train them to eat i started with live baby brine, then moved onto frozen BB and daphnia, after a few weeks they start to eat mysis and brine.

they need a fair bit of commitment with reg feedings

they have a life span of 3-3.5 years.

Had them two months so far and they hug the rocks, well the small one do. the others roam around.

I suck at taking pics. The male has more stripes on his fins and the pectoral fins have blue on them. He still is getting more colorful two months later.

Gorgeous anthias, Dtronic.

My favorite right now is actually evansi. They have the same shape as tuka but easier to take care of. Colors on them are more pink with a tint of blue (less red like bartletts) and yellow towards dorsal fin and tail. Compared to other anthias in the tank, they hardly ever fight. :fish1:

Nice Tierras!

I have a few of these also and really like them, especially when they are small there colors tend to be really cool.

I have 5 Carberryi in my 150. I've had them about 8 months now. Two look like they want to be male and sometimes lock mouths fighting, but they haven't killed one another yet! Most of the time they get along just fine. I really wish one would get the male coloration though.

A full blown male P. pleurotaenia takes the prize for nicest looking IMO, but they are much too big and aggressive for most home tanks.

If I could get a school of P. connelli from South Africa those might be my favorite.

One of the best looking anthias that can be found at a reasonable price and are not very difficult to take care of is P. randalli. The females are relatively dull but the supermales are one of the nicest looking fish in the ocean IMO. For some reason it is really hard to photograph but in person these fish glow like a candy basslet when they are side by side.

We have a trio of blotchies.... they hold their own against anything. Very tolerant of each other as far as anthias go.

A trio of flavs.... they are pretty timid at first. Mine hate each other and I've had then awhile now.

A lone fathead.... I'm wondering if a group may help them come out of their shell. This guy is afraid of my seahorses.

I only had a single lyretail that lived for 8 years and made it through a chloramine bath and an ant poison crash. She was one tough fish.
