Well...........My Vulgaris (who is now about 10in) finally made it's first escape..........with a plop! LOL.
Ok, I'll explain, during the time that I'm at home I leave the top open on my octo tank for "fresh air". I've never had a problem with it even trying to escape, until now.
The tank is in the living room where I was watching TV. Both my cats were in the room with me, one of which is a kitten and was running around playing. Most of the lights were off and it was about 1am. As I was sitting there I heard a PLOP,(kinda like a wet rag droped on a counter top) my first thought was that it was the kitten playing near the tanks, seeing as last night I had to keep dragging him out of the stand of my main tank. So I quickly glanced back to see if the cat had knocked something over, but didn't see anything. But some thing caught my attention moving on the ground by the octos tank. It took my eyes a few seconds to adjust (it was fairly dim by the tanks), it was my octo RUNNING across the carpet! Now I don't know if any of you have seen an octo moving out of the water before, but I thought they would be some what slow and "blob" like, that's not the case. It was MOVING, it had its body completely off the ground and was moving some what like a spider (and very quickly). Needless to say I jumped up off the sofa and went to go pick it up, and it ran right to me and let me pick it up, like it knew that I was going to help it. So it walked onto my hand and when it was over the tank it jumped back into the water.
The thing that's freaky is how it was moving, like I said before, I thought it would be slow, but besides that I've seen pics of octos out of the water and they were flattened looking (kind of like when they flatten out on the glass of the tank) but it was totally "puffed up" running across the floor.
Well thought I'd share my story with ya, hope you enjoyed it.
