I baught a feather duster two days ago and i was looking in the tank this afternoon and knowticed that the worm had come all the way out of the tube. he is now crawling around the bottom of the tank. Why would it do this, and is he going to die?
thanks

That's not a good sign. Most likely your fish will pick at him. I accidently ripped the tube off of one and it either died or disappeared.

No way! there's still hope. even if it does die it shouldn't foul the tank enough to do any harm.

Agreed,

You may get luck and it might relocate to another rock. I have a couple Large hawaiian dusters that have shown up in the last year. I have not had a duster in my tank for 3 years...

Ive got hundreds of small ones all over the place.....someof them are actually getting to be good sized.

He's probably starving and is re-locating in an attempt to survive. I assume he has already shed his crown?

You could try turning off your pumps and target feeding him phytoplankton, but before that is effective he must regrow his crown.

If he doesn't have enough energy to regrow his feathers he will probably die. I think it is just a wait and see situation at this point.
