feather duster regeneration?

a few minutes ago i noticed my turbo snail crushing my fanworm into live rock and popped off its crown....is the worm a soon to be goner? or will they regenerate their crown?

They will regenerate their crown, sometimes when stressed they will loose their crown.

Hum, are you sure that's a turbo snail? Can we see a picture?

They can regenerate the crown, as long as they're well fed. They usually eat phytoplankton.

Definatly feed phytoplankton if you want to keep the feather dusters for any length of time. Our tanks will not support enough free floating/swimming planktonic foods for them without supplementation.

And yes, the crown may regrow a new worm, and the rest of the old worm may regrow a new crown. As long as they can do this without distruption by other critters in the tank. A hermit may find the remains and start in on it before it's had a chance to regrow. Many will drop the crown when stressed (as it sound in your case) and also as a means of reproduction. I've even seen worms split and share a tube for a while before one or both abandon the tube and go off to make a new one.

So true mine have done the same thing . they will grow back.

Mine did the same thing. I came home to a crown floating around the tank. Within a few weeks it was like it never happened.

MY H.F.D appears to be sheding it's crown. Thank for the info. When it does shed I'll but the crown down in the refusium and wait for a new tube to grow.
