feather star ID

Wow, that is amazing. I want one.

It appears to be a Himerometra robustipinna.

EDIT: I verified that, and it is indeed a Himerometra robustipinna (they are very intriguing)

Beautiful animal, but if you find one, I would not suggest buying it.

I had one that looked very similar but a deeper, almost maroon red.
Thought it would live in my tank because I had a different feather star for nearly a year.

WRONG!

It was heartbreaking to watch the thing lose energy and eventually fall apart over the next 3 months. Meanwhile, my other feather star was not growing and I finally realized it was deteriorating and after nearly a year and a half it died. In fact, I had not succeeded in keeping it alive that long, it just took that long to waste away.

thanks for the info and ID guys! very cool animal. shame, they seem to be another one of those really cool animals that just don't fare well in captivity. hopefully someone will eventually figure out what everyone's been doing wrong or what exactly they need to thrive.
