Feather Star

Calappidae

Harlequin Shrimp
I'm thinking of a feather star in my mini reef. If they get too big I'll skip but what are the care requirments anyway?

You will not be able to meet it's nutritional requirements without compromising your water quality. Expert only, should only be placed in tanks designed for NPS corals. It's best not to create a market for them.

"Maybe" when I get my 125 setup I'll give it a go. I was thinking of several auto feeders if their food comes in a form that I could do that. I heard they are the most difficult animal to keep.. which is encouraging :uhoh3:

From my experience like Nudibranchs or similar creatures we know little of their feeding habits, there are vast differences in their care. I have 6 atm and have only lost one in the last 6 months. Here in Australia those I've kept (sorry can't give technical names) primarily being greens, yellows, black, blue tolerate varying water conditions and feed well on fine foods. As their found generally with Gorgonians here I feed the same foods. The oranges and reds as yet I have not been able to keep longer than 2 months, and won't look to keep again till I can find specific information on their care.
It should be noted to anyone enchanted with the idea of keeping them, they don't swim or move around as often seen in videos. They like anemones move when flow is compromised. In fact for the most part they stay curled amongst corals or suspended from rock in flow. Unless their your thing, probably not the most exciting creature:)
