Feb NARC

You might want to check out his web site.If you see something reasonably priced you should print it out or the price may not be what you expect when you get there. If you are looking for live rock, ignore the figi rock he post on his site for 4.50 lb. I have been going there about 4 months and he has never had any figi rock. The rock he has runs 6.50 lb. He does have a lot more coral frags than The Aquarium shop but his starting price seems to be $29.99 and goes up. He did have brown palys yesterday for 24.95 for 1 ployp. You might want to check out The Aquarium shop in Huntsville if you havent already. They dont have that big of a selection but he does get new stuff in every week, and its not so far to drive. Just my .02.

WOO HOOO, I have heard a lot about CRA and will get over there soon I hope. Some may not know but I have a 5 YO a 4 YO and my baby will turn 2 in feb. That would be great Tomoko. I love to see you write rip out and be head. Hope the corals don't hear you saying that.

Was the one brown paly frag a Palythoa grandis frag? If so, the price is not bad. I don't find a palythoa grandis so desirable, but there are a lot of hobbyists who love them because they are rare.

John does not update his website and the price and other information on the website is old.

I must say his prices have gone up in the recent years. He used to be able to compete with online shops any day. I suppose the high cost of shipping is a burden to most small retail shops. His prices on salt mixes are still the best around here, though.

Although many people are critical of The Aquarium Shop, the owner Pete McGraw is very knowledgeable and helpful. It is a full line store and I rely on them a lot for the supplies that other stores don't carry.

I support LFS's as much as possible because I cannot get through an emergency situation without them. It is also cheaper to buy frozen food from them than online.

Just my 2 cents, too.

Tomoko

I agree about The Aquarium Shop, Pete is knowledgeable and Art is pretty good also. I've shopped with him for a long time now, way before I switched to salt. My wife says he is gonna block my number cause I call him so much, :D , but he never seems to mind helping. his rock is fair priced also at 4 a lb and 10 a lb on fiji unless you buy 10 lbs then it's 6. now we have 6 cents. I hated to see Lucy's go out but man did I rack up. I finally got a 400 watt halide for 50 hehe. and play's out the ears.
Chris

Can't say I was sorry to see Lucy's go away. When the first started they were pretty good. His attitude turned us away.(I'd rather throw it away than to sell it cheap at the end). No love lost there. Pete on the other hand would truely be shame if they went away. He has helped me more than anyone ever has. He also is by far one of the smartest, nicest and truthful people I have done business with.

Yes it was the playthoa grandis and i dont find them that desirable either. Some people must. I had ask about it before the frag swap and he told me 12.50 for the one. I didn't know if i really liked it that much so i decided to wait until after the swap. Since they are so poisenous it is probably good he went up. I would probably wind up dead handling the thing.:rolleye1:
I agree, his prices on salt and other supplies are usually A bit lower than Petes but like most people if i am at The Aquarium shop i want waste the gas going to Athens for 2 bucks.:D
The Aquarium shop was the main store I used back 25 years ago when i first tried my hand at salt water. I guess I'll still use him most. Pete is just a friendly face when you need help with things.;) I hope he can stay in business a lot more years.

Yeah I do agree he ran down the company, a lot of people have said that as well. I just liked some of the corals they had. A few good displays also. Oh well, it's all about loyalty and customers, I don't see TAS going away anytime soon. Least I hope not.
Chris

It will be 1:00 pm.

Is there anything else you want to do in addition to trading/selling/buying corals?
Any suggestion for demo/show-and-tell?

I'm hoping to make this meeting. Like Tomoko, I need to rip a good bit of Xenia out my tank, and I'll bring it as well as some Anthelia. I've also got some Orange monti cap and a couple of mushrooms if anyone is interested -- let me know if you want either of the latter, because I probably won't bring them otherwise.
Mariner

If anyone has any extra frags they would like to get reed of, I'd appreciate it, if I could have them. Anything would look nice, I have just started a new 55gal tank and there is notthing but live rock in it as of right now, Thanks.
PS, it will have a dwarf lion, crabs, buy the time of the meeting.

Here's a response from the banned one:

I understand the meeting this month is at petco in Decatur 21 feb at 1300. (1PM for cilivians LOL)

I can bring my usual diy 2 part.

and a light fixture for mariner

If anyone has some simple soft corals I may want to try that.

If it was warmer and outside I could try firing up my mad scientist sump demostration. Seems like there is always some interest in that. LOL

Hope to cu all there and looking forward

Bob

I have tried to make the last few meetings and something has always came up but I am planning on making this one for sure. I hope to meet a few of you there.

Hi Tomoko! My wife and I will be able to attend the Reef Club meeting on the 21st, we are already excited about it. Hopefully my tank will be fine, if not, I have another tank I can use until mine heal. So I am interested in any type SPS or other coral frags you may have available. My wife also has a Nano 24 in her Sun Room she just started. Looking foward to seeing everyone at NARC.
Do we need to bring anything to the meeting?

Tammy and I still plan to be there. The only frags I have riht now is 3 frogspawns. One has two heads and the other is a single tring to develope another head. Let us know if we should bring anything or if anyone has something they want to trade for these.
