fedex!!!

I was supposed to have a shipment from Vivid this morning containing a pair of percula clown fish, a purple firefish, a torch coral, a golden Leptastrea, and some more snails... Package was supposed to be delivered by 10:30 EST. No package yet, so I called FedEx and they informed me that because of a software problem my shipment is stuck in Indianapolis! ! These are live creatures, you can't just set them aside and say when they get there they get there... There is a reason people pay for overnight shipping! I just tore into them, told them that if they aren't delivered by the end of today I don't want them and they will be paying for an entire new shipment.

But to be honest, it goes beyond the cost of the shipment. These are live creatures and I can't stand to think they could be in there suffering/dying!

i lost a carpenter's wrasse a few months ago because ups delivered it to the wrong house and i didn't get it till 6 hours after the supposed time of delivery. the wrasse was still alive and struggling but died within an hour of going into my qt.

like you, i wasn't as upset about the fact that ups screwed up, what bothered me the most was the fact that the fish had to suffer/die.

ugh, so disheartening.... I find it odd that they had a software issue at 5:30am and the package is still sitting out there???? A huge shipping company like FedEx can't straighten out a software issue in 5 hours???

Where did you order from that used Fedex? All my stuff always comes UPS fedex shows up at my house at like 8am wish LA used fedex...

Computer error is either we had a delay on your original flight landing and left without your package or woops forgot that one in the corner...

how much of a safe time period are we looking at here? How long can they survive in the shipping containers? Should I even accept the package at this point? I still haven't heard back from the mang at the Indianapolis facility yet so I don't even know at this point if it's still there or if it is on it's way again....

I would contact vivid they might beable to pull the shipment back from there and send you a new one.

I have never had any fresh water fish survive over 24 hours in a bag but havent had the problem with salt critters at this point.

I have had fishes from a online store ship me fishes which have been in transit 2 days and they were fine. How long they said before you get it.

Had this happen to me too. The Tennessee/Kentucky area seems bad about it. The fish will likely be fine, its more sensitive things that are at risk. Sorry to hear it and make sure to let Vivid know.

FedEx called me and said the package arrived at their facility late and missed the plane to Boston. They said they will have it on the next flight which should be in Boston around 6pm, which means if I get it today it won't be until at least 8pm tonight, if not then tomorrow morning.... Trying to call Vivid but haven't reached anyone yet.

Fedex has a hold at location service.I dont know if they have an office at the airport where u can pick it up tonight if u are able to travel there

No I wouldn't be able to make it to the airport tonight. I just spoke to Dave at Vivid. He said the corals and snails should be fine; the fish are a little iffy... but he said acclimate them and hope for the best. If it doesn't survive they'll either send me out new fish or refund my money.

When I lived in Connecticut, FedEx delivered an order to the local Petco. After some discussion FedEx bought me a new order.

They usually spend 2 days in transit from overseas to the US. Hope everything works out ok. I'd just get a QT set up at the same salinity & dump them in after temp acclimating in the bag.

+1,000!! i wouldn't even think of drip acclimating after they've been in bags that long.

As much as it sucks...it does happen. Of the couple dozen times I have ordered online, it has happened to me once. Some things are beyond FedEx's control....packages slip through sometimes. Even when you buy from a LFS....fish lose lives on the way there, it is just part of the hobby. Sad, but true.

The package i had that was late by a day, I was expecting nothing but death when I opened the box....all fish lived and looked happy as anything. Heres hoping yours do ok :)
