Ive had my peacock for about 2 weeks now and have been feeding it silversides and krill. Anything else I should be feeding it? or any supplements to add to the food ?
Also, if you have a smasher, letting him/her work for the food will encourage him/her to prowl about more; as far as I know, in the wild, mantis shrimp don't get Selecon soaked goodies handed to them from a bamboo skewer (I'm LOLing at that image!)
As an occasional treat, I'd get a live clam from a seafood store, drip acclimate it for temp and salinity, and put it on a rock near the mantis.
It would be a small clam, like 1" or so. The people there knew me as the crazy reef guy. I'd buy other stuff to make coral and mantis food while I was there, no sense in a crazy tiny purchase.
She always liked the clam though, and would wait till lights out to bust it open. Don't try this with mussels though, no matter how fresh, she had zero interest in them, and they'd just die in the high tank temp.
I fed mine mysis shrimp, krill and a snail from time to time.
Where did you guys get your Mantis shrimp from? I use to have a peacock a couple of years ago.. He died out of the blue one day after about a year or so.. He was full grown when I got him. I would love to get another, But I haven't seen anyone that sells them. That fish place did have them listed but after 50 bucks plus shipping what they sent me was not a peacock... BTW thats him in my Avatar. I called him Thor
No the one in my avatar was the one I had before. That picture is from like 05 lol.. The one I got from that fish place was a couple years ago.. I looked it up.. I just dont remember what it was. It was a solid dark green/brown. It was not a peacock!!
