Feeding a Perula?

I don't know if this is the right forum for my post, but it's with regards to a Percula I have in my 10 gal. nano. It's been a week since I got him and he's not taking floating/sinking food or flake. He takes a taste of each and then spits it out. He looks like he's hungry and wants to eat, but he's not liking what I'm feeding. Seeing that many of you nano owners have these fish, what are you feeding them?
Lastly, does anyone use Selcon to feed?

Have you tried frozen foods yet? My perculas go crazy over forzen brine. You could always try a small amount of garlic or selcon but don't over do it.

I'll head out to the store and get some frozen brine. Andrew, when you said "don't over do it", did you mean the garlic or Selcon? Is Selcon generally recommended?

I mean don't like soak it in it. Just a little drop on their food is good enough. Both for garlic and selcon.

my fish would not eat eather then i got cyco-ease or something like that and it loved it that is all it would eat. Now i mix that with mysis shrimp and he eats that.

it is better to feed your fish mysis than brine shrimp. the brine shrimp has no nutritiunal value.

Just get him eating anything if at all possible, I would say just about anthing even if it has no nutritional value I suppose you could always soak it in selecone. If it goes to long with out eating it will most likely die. My first pair of clowns did that to me, didn't eat and croaked. "not saying all do that, just some fish are hardier/were caught different/ were transported different than others". Good luck with your clown.

Interesting. That food you're talking about, does is come in a long red foil pouch. Just curious as I think I've seen that in stores.

ya i think so here is a link. I would try it my fish wernt eating and then they ate that. Now i mix it with mysis and they love it. But it is kinda expensive that was the only bad thing. But it comes with a lot.

Brine shrimp are an excellent training food. Most fish will accept them, and you can move on from there. Sometimes you need to start with live brine for more finicky fish. I got an ocellaris the other day, first day I fed frozen mix, he spit everything out. Two days later I fed frozen brine, he ate it and liked it. Then he started to eat flake, now I can barely feed the shrimp anything, the ocellaris tries to take food that won't even fit in his mouth!

My perc LOVES the Cyclop-eeze as well as frozen mysis. I mix the two together and drop it in the tank and all 3 of my fish and my cleaner shrimp are very happy with it.

Same here..when they won't eat, I feed Cyclop-eeze and they go nuts for it.

Well, let me introduce you to my cown. I went to the store and bought both cyclop-eeze and frozen mysis and the guy just won't eat a thing. He does the same, he swims for it then stops and swims away. With the mysis he took some in his mouth (I got excited for a second) then spit it right back out. So the deal is that I've tried pellet and flake food, cyclops-eeze and mysis and he's just not eating anything. today will be a week and a half that he's been in the tank and I have yet seen him eat a single thing. I'm getting the feeling that he might not be around much longer. He looks healthy but isn't swimming with as much energy as he was before.

It may take sometime before he accepts food. I wouldn't bother with dry foods. Mine won't touch the stuff.

He eats frozen blood worms, mysis shrimp mostly. Could try some fresh frozen food soaked in entice garlic additive.

I'm surprised he didn't go for the cyclop-eze. He might be a fish from the ocean. Try shaving the mysis shrimp rinse and strain a few times (get the packing water out) and soak in selcon feed small portions with an eye dropper. Hopefully he'll come around. HTHS

Another simple trick.....Drop a drop or two of Garlic additive into the tank about 10 minutes prior to feeding. This has a similar effect on the fish as it does to you when you walk into your favorite Italian restaurant.

I am surprised about the cyclop-eeze. All of my fish go nuts over this stuff. I use the flake, vs. the frozen.
