Feeding Advice

I swore I'd never buy a wild caught horse but I walked into my LFS and saw a bright orange reidi and I couldn't help myself. Plan on keeping him (he's carrying) in 50 gal Q-tank for three months. So far he's turning down live brine, ghost and baby guppies.

Any advice?

well if hes not taking those live foods, it doesnt look good so far. try soaking in some garlic or maybe cyclopeeze to appetize him perhaps.

good luck though

How long have you had him? If its been 48 hours or less, it could just be acclimation stress, especially since he is WC and is now in a bare bottom QT.
If you've had him longer than that, could you answer these questions. What are the parameters of the QT? What was he eating in the store? Is he showing interest in the foods at all or trying to snick at it and failing?
I'd try to get a hold of live mysis to entice him, and de-worming meds so you can start the de-worming procedure as soon as he begins to eat. Did you FW dip him before putting him in the QT?

He's 36 hours in my tank and he just picked at some live brine.

Temp of tank is 75, other parameters are all WNL. Some current.

What's the protocol for deworming. Should I wait until after he gives birth?

Well, first off, lower the temperature to about 73*F. 75 is a tad high.

For deworming, you'll need to buy Prazio pro. Use the meds to gutload some adult brine shrimp, and feed out once a week for 3 weeks. Then you will need to buy panacur from www.seahorsesource.com it's listed as Fenbendazol. You'll need to inject it into ghost shrimp, and feed to him. Whole process takes 6 weeks. Any other questions, just ask!

Id simply monitor, if he is in a Q tank he will be by himself, so it will be easy to see if he is eating, look for poop. You may not see him eating, but poop is pretty much the key to eating.

Males will be shy as all get out when in the family way, not all granted but 99% will find a nice quiet spot n sit there n sort of hibernate.

I would not even begin worrying about anything for a while yet, he is new to the tank, he is preggers, all seems pretty normal to me.

I would not consider anything till after birth, you want the fry, sweet, but if you start buggerizin around with him he may stress and abort the fry.

Well, two days ago I woke up to about 300 fry. Luckily I had rotifers and just started them on bbs this evening. Amazing how about a quarter of them are bright, bright orange even at this early age. Moved dad to another tank.

I've never raised reidi before. Similar to erectus I hope. How long are they pelagic?
