I ran out of clams (unable to order) and I dropped in a dozen hermits about 3 weeks ago. My octo collected them all up and hasn't been seen except to wave a tenticle when I clean the tank. Is this normal?

well, id check the ammonia in case they all died,
perhaps they are held captive and he eats one at a time?
maybe have a carefull look see for dead bodies/shells and maybe even your octo might have laid eggs???

I'd check that all out... maybe it's just full :)

Octopus are gluttons and often collect more food than they can eat. In nature, this presents no problem, but in a closed aquarium, as Octomonkey says, it can be lethal.

2 weeks wouldnt kill an octo by starvation, not after gorging... could have been a male at the end of its life?

maybe, but aweful young only 6 months old and kept at 65-70 degrees. Like I said amonia was a bit high, but only one notch up. Going to clean out the tank, re-cycle it with just live rock this time, no macro, and try again.

Thanks!
