feeding an anemone with a clown.

Is it necessary to feed an anemone that is hosting a clown? I have a RBTA that is host to a Cinnamon clown and as i was feeding the other anemones some silversides i noticed the clown was out in hopes of gathering himself some food. While he was out i figured i would be nice and feed his home for him. After i fed the RBTA, the clown proceeded to pull the silverside from the anemone and chow down on it himself. I figured he would at least be nice and allow his home to get some of the fallout from his feast, but he pulled it far away from the anemone to eat it. Was this just a territorial thing where he hated anything even remotely resembling a fish near his home or what? Also should i even bother trying to feed the poor host RBTA anymore? And is there any good website where i can read up on the symbiosis of clowns and anemones.....it really intrigues me =)

Most people here would definatly recommend feeding your bta!
And silverslides is a great choice.

Not sure why your clown is doing that, mine seems to feed the bta before herself. but.. this is what I do, and it works..

I defrost the silverslide in tank water in 1 cup.. (actually 1/3 a silverslide because its not big enough for a whole one.. your bta will eat it faster if its smaller too)

In another cup i get the fishes food ready.
I feed the fish a lil food, then I give the bta its silverslide with tongs
Then I go right back to feeding the clown.. She used to get confused by the bta eating and wonder why it was closed up, but she leaves it alone while its eating now days

You should feed the clownfish first then the anemone. Or feed them at the same time. If the fish is hungry it will steal food from the anemone. If it is full it will often take food to the anemone. I usually feed full or half silversides to my anemones. If they "miss" my clarkii will usually drag the food back to the anemone.

yeah, a full clown will actually bring food to the anemone. feed them both at the same time

I would just be carfeful about the size of any silverside that you feed it, nothing too big, I almost killed one of mine feeding it a whole silverside.
