feeding anemones

i have a long tenacle bubble tip anemone ,this is my first experience with anemones, and when i feed it a piece of shrimp or silver sides , it will swallow the piece of food totally, then in about 5 minutes it brings it back out. is this normal?

how large is the piece of food? And how big is your nem?

i would say the anemone is the size of a orange , and the food has been the size of its mouth, maybe a little larger

You'll have more luck if you chop it up into smaller chunks. It makes it easier for the anemone to digest, and it will stay in it's mouth longer.

I had that problem when I tried feeding mine silversides. I know feed prime reef and have no problems.
