Feeding clams

Light and fish waste. Once they get over about 2 1/2" the mantle is large enough to feed off of the zooxanthellae that hosts in them. They need nothing else but good water quality and a good amount of lighting.

as long as there is nitrogen and phosphorus in the water, clams will be fine on light alone.

if you want to add food to the water,it needs to be zoo/phyto plankton between the sizes of 2 and 200 microns.

i personally dont add anything to the water for my clams.

I have two clams that seem to be doing very well - especially a miaxima that is starting to look awesome. That is a bit surprising because a few folks thouhgt it might not survive under my T5s. But I add live phyto 3xs per week and, of course, the lighting. For samall clams that have not anchored to anything, some remove the clam and put it in a bowl with phyto to feed it. I have never done it as my smaller clam, the maxima, has its foot locked into the LR.
