Feeding Clowns

When I go to work and look at the colors of some of the clowns we hae there I feel bad for them as I know they could be in much better condition if we could feed them all the higher quality foods. Oh well they're not going to die from Nutrafin flakes. Plus at least they have somebody to feed them everyday.

How come you can't feed them higher quality stuff? Apologies for going off topic, but I work at the same store and I feed our fish everything under the sun. Mysis, formula 1 frozen, brine, bloodworms, chopped up krill, formula 2, etc etc etc. I have a whole area of our freezer sectioned off just for my sw fish food supply.

I've started bringing garlic gloves to work and soaking their food in that too. :)

"We" collectively can feed whatever we want. The problem is getting some of the other employees to feed anything other than the Tetra flake or brine shrimp. "They" also don't like us to have more then one flake/pellet open at a time. Note I didn't open the tetra flake. Things are looking up though. I even have some people using phytoplankton on the invert tanks. The bad news is I am moving to Gainesville and before I got to this petco the only thing being fed to all the SW fish was brine shrimp and tetra flake. Sadly it was about 90% brine 10% flake. I too have a section of the freezer being used up by just SW foods, but I'm not very confident that anybody else is going to continue on what I started.

Just a hint..when whoever does your grocery store run for reptile/small animal greens have them pick you up some garlic. I know it's not expensive even if you are the one bringing it in, but the same could be said from the store's perspective as well.

Omni,

I never even thought about looking at the grocery for a mix like that. Which store do you pick that up in (Publix, Winn-Dixie, Food Lion)?

Also I know this is a little off of the topic, but where specifically in "Middle, Florida" do you live? I've lived in Florida for a majority of my life and I've never heard of a place called Middle }:cP.

I work at a large Mexican supermarket. We carry the seafood mix. Any large store like windixie has it. Look where they keep fresh fish.

Middle Florida is actually Gopher Ridge :) And no you wont find it on most maps.
Named after a sand ridge nearby where Gopher Tortoises are found. You may have heard of Rifle Range?
A few miles south of a town called Winter Haven.

Interesting. As soon as I get to the area I am going to find a winn-dirty and see if I can hit them up for one of these fancy seafood mixes.

Wow, you got me. I am very familiar with where Winter Haven is, but have never heard of Gopher Ridge. I am actually moving to a town called Bronson which is actually a few miles south of Gainesville, west of Ocala and east of Cedar Key..ie in the boonies.

I thought about that but she already buys purple cabbage, collard greens, parsley, carrots, broccoli, romaine lettuce and frozen veggies for our birds plus regular cabbage for our guinea pigs. I didn't want to over-do it.

I've heard other employees from neighboring stores also say they don't feed their SW fish much because they know "they" don't want a lot of food open at once. To be honest, I've always said "they" can go "screw" themselves. The fish are more important imo :D

If you saw my section of the freeze and our unsellables sheet any day that I work you would notice that I take every opportunity I can to try to get our little guys somethings.

This is WAAAaaaay off topic, but we also feed out guinea pigs Green Pepper. They sure love them, so we give them to them daily. Who do you guys feed the parsley to? Also I see lots of veggies and no fruits, what is up with that?

Back on topic:
It will be interesting to see once I get to Gainesville who does our shopping and how long it takes me to get some pull with the grocery list. Maybe I can eventually score some of the "Marine Cuisine" that omni is talking about and pass it off as necessary for healthy nems. Who knows though, only time will tell.
