Feeding coral pics (and question?)

So as I was feeding stuff last night, I caught some pretty neat shots I wanted to share :) Also, quick question... a piece of the scallop got away from the brain, and the candy cane grabbed it up real quick, so we fed a few pieces to the candy cane (mainly the heads with the sweepers out) #1, is that ok to feed them? #2, is we only fed a few heads, does the nutrition get spread throughout the coral, or just the heads that eat? Thanks, and enjoy the pics!

absolutely

From my experience with Candycanes (started with 3 polyps, 4 years later have 3 20+ polyp colonies... had to quit feeding) it is polyp only. As they grow they split, and this seems to happen more often with polyps that receive more nutrition. Other LPS, such as Duncans, do seem to benefit as an entire colony when only one polyp is fed, but they grow new heads... as opposed to splitting.

and neat pics, btw.

You can feed each polyp easily by getting a 50ml syringe and putting some brine shrimp in it. You can quickly feed every polyp.

We currently use a baster, but that might be easier, thanks! I was more referencing it being a pain to do the scallop pieces (like in the pic) that was an accident (we were feeding the brain and the nem) but the candy cane seemed to like it too.

A syringe with a length of airline tubing on the end works great too. Nice close up pics by the way!

I would feed cyclops over brine shrimp... much much more nutritional value. Also, here's a tip: Feed the polyps near where you want growth to occur. For example... Don't feed the center of the colony, only polyps around the edges.
